AGM & Annual Get-Together

Sophie Hunter-James
Director – SFS Trace

Wednesday 5th February Seafood Producers, Suppliers, Buyers, Investors and Stakeholders vested in Seafood Souq’s mission to revolutionise the industry came together for our very first Annual General Meeting; and afterwards an annual get-together to celebrate all of our achievements over the past year, give insight into the industry and bring together many of the different people and businesses involved throughout the Seafood Supply Chain.

Set with the backdrop of the sun setting on to the beautiful Arabian Gulf (we couldn’t think of a better location to host this event oceanside at Dubai Offshore Sailing Club) Our AGM included attendees of existing investors, board members, prospective investors and press from Arabian Business and The Economist.

CEO & Co-Founder Sean Dennis presented to the group industry information and all the exciting developments Seafood Souq has made over the past year, the exciting projects we’re involved in for 2020 and the public reveal of SFS Trace — a stamp of approval for 100% traceable seafood (see our last blog post to learn more about this)

This closed with a Q&A panel with the Seafood Souq team giving the audience an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about what we do and how we do it, it was great to see the interest that attendees had in all that we are passionate about improving in the industry through the use of technology.

Followed by our Annual Get-together this was a chance to celebrate externally with everyone from the AGM and some additional attendees of; friends of Seafood Souq, Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, various Government representatives, Emirates SkyCargo, local buyers and producers and new buyers looking to learn more and see how they can start working with us; and of course an opportunity for everyone to taste the freshest Seafood in Dubai brought in directly from source.

The Seafood for the evening was presented in DOSC’s signature converted sailboat come fish counter and presented with Seafood Souq Tags and SFS Trace QR codes.

This meant while attendees were enjoying having their fresh seafood cooked in front of them they could be the first to have a hands on experience with SFS Trace and scan the QR code to discover the journey of the seafood from where it came from to how it was raised to when it arrived that day in Dubai. It was a great pleasure to receive such positive feedback from this and see first hand how much people enjoyed having complete visibility on the product they were eating.

A huge thank you to the Seafood producers we work with that supplied their wonderful products for this event;

  • Live Lobster direct from Maine Coast, USA
  • Salmon direct from Norway Royal Salmon with a live slicing station from Salmontini (with their special smoked salmon secret ingredients that were very much enjoyed!)
  • Local Oysters from Dibba Bay
  • Local Sea Bass & Sea Bream from Fish Farm

There was absolutely no leftovers from this event so we dare say the Seafood was fully enjoyed by all — 0% wastage is what we like to see!

The next morning the Seafood Souq office was electric with the team truly buzzing off how well the event went and the genuine interest that so many took into what we at Seafood Souq are passionate about, traceability, transparency and bringing efficiencies to the industry through the technology we are developing.

To get from behind the screens at Seafood Souq HQ and speak with all individuals involved at all stages of the supply chain on how we are helping improve the way they do business was a well received opportunity by everyone. Through the use of our technology we link together the various parts involved in Seafood Supply and to facilitate this offline was fantastic, a personification of our mission to be the network that links all these people and businesses together as a community.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this event and for the support over the past year until now. What makes our mission even more exciting is sharing the passion for improving the industry with so many others throughout the Seafood Supply chain, and we look forward to continuing to build this link and transparency both through our technology and through face time at events like this more regularly in the future.
