At Seafood Expo Global 2026 in Barcelona, Seafood Souq and the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) formalised a strategic collaboration that signals a meaningful shift for seafood supply chains in the Middle East and beyond. Through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), both organisations are committing to a shared goal: making seafood supply chains more transparent, traceable, and ultimately more responsible.This strategic collaboration comes at a pivotal moment. The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is rapidly emerging as both a major seafood trading hub and a growing force in sustainability and compliance. Yet, like much of the global seafood industry, it faces persistent challenges ranging from fragmented supply chains to limited visibility into sourcing practices.

A New Era for Souq Al Jubail: Sharjah Pioneers Digital Traceability in Fisheries in Partnership with Seafood Souq
In partnership with Sharjah Asset Management, Seafood Souq has launched the UAE’s first comprehensive digital traceability system for the fisheries sector, debuting at Souq Al Jubail. This innovative platform assigns unique QR codes to each vessel, enabling real-time verification of licenses, catch type, species, and origin from ocean to plate. The system streamlines market operations, reduces costs, and enhances regulatory oversight, while boosting consumer confidence in locally-sourced seafood. Aligning with Sharjah’s vision of innovation, sustainability, and food security, the platform has already verified over 140,500 kilograms of seafood from 139 vessels and 53 species. By improving transparency, efficiency, and fairness in the seafood industry, Seafood Souq is setting a benchmark for responsible fisheries management, with plans to expand nationally across all seven emirates.
