Another step towards digitising UAE Fisheries: Fujairah Adopts Digital Traceability in Fisheries in Partnership with Seafood Souq

Seafood Souq is proud to announce a strategic partnership with the Fujairah Fishermen Association, marking Fujairah’s entry into the UAE’s growing digital fisheries ecosystem. With the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Fujairah becomes the second emirate to adopt the SFS (Seafood Souq Fisheries System), reinforcing the country’s commitment to building a more transparent, sustainable, and data-driven seafood sector.
This collaboration represents a shared vision to modernise fisheries operations through practical and scalable digital solutions. By digitising key processes across Fujairah’s fisheries landscape, the initiative introduces structured landing validation at designated sites, digital catch certification for verified seafood, and enhanced mechanisms for regulatory compliance and data transparency. Together, these capabilities lay the groundwork for a more efficient and trusted ecosystem that benefits fishermen, regulators, and buyers alike.
At the core of this partnership is the deployment of an integrated system that captures and validates fisheries data at the source. Every catch recorded through landing validation strengthens traceability, while digital catch certificates enable seafood to enter the market with verified origin and greater credibility. Complementing this, a centralised fisheries dashboard provides real-time insights into activity across the emirate, supporting more informed decision-making and resource management.
What this means for the UAE
Fujairah’s adoption of SFS Fisheries is not only a local milestone but also a significant step in advancing the UAE’s national priorities. By contributing to a unified framework for fisheries traceability and management, the emirate supports broader goals around food security, sustainable resource use, and the digital transformation of critical industries. As more emirates integrate into this system, the UAE moves closer to a fully connected seafood supply chain that is transparent, verifiable, and efficient from catch to consumer.
A key pillar of this initiative is its direct impact on the fishing community. Through training, knowledge exchange, and technical collaboration, the partnership is designed to strengthen capabilities within the sector, enable data-driven decision-making, and unlock new opportunities for market access. In doing so, it ensures that fishermen are not only part of this transformation but are positioned to benefit from it.
The agreement also establishes a joint working framework to oversee implementation, facilitate data exchange, and address operational challenges, reflecting a long-term commitment from both parties. It further opens the door to collaboration with government entities and private sector stakeholders, highlighting the importance of partnerships in driving meaningful, sector-wide progress.
With Fujairah now onboard, momentum behind the UAE’s fisheries digitisation continues to accelerate. This partnership represents another tangible step toward enhancing traceability and trust in seafood supply chains, improving competitiveness for local producers, and building a more resilient and sustainable fisheries sector.
At Seafood Souq, we remain committed to powering the future of seafood through technology, transparency, and collaboration—delivering solutions that create lasting value across the entire value chain.
