At Seafood Souq our mission is to revolutionize the seafood industry and develop innovative technologies that can shape the future of our ocean, this is at the heart of everything that we do.

In support of this pursuit we were incredibly privileged to be chosen as a contributor for the ECO Mgazine Special Edition.

On 17 May the ECO Magazine in partnership with the IOC-UNESCO released a special issue on the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development 2021 – 2030 (Ocean Decade).

Featured in Chapter 5: A sustainably harvested and productive ocean, we tell the story of our research so far and dive into the why’s and how’s of the lack of transparency and data available throughout the supply chain exploring the loopholes that continue to strain the global supply and our tech based solutions to solve these issues.

What is the Eco UN Ocean Decade?

The United Nations proclaimed a Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) to support efforts to reverse the cycle of decline in ocean health and gather ocean stakeholders worldwide behind a common framework that will ensure ocean science can fully support countries in creating improved conditions for sustainable development of the Ocean.

In line with our commitment to four of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, we wanted to further contribute our research and insight into this industry to shine a light on the lack of governance and more importantly, educate consumers to make more informed and responsible choices when purchasing seafood.

Digitising the supply chain

By digitising the supply chain, we are introducing traceability at every step to ensure greater transparency reducing opportunities for fraud and wastage.

The digital ecosystem we are creating provides inherent traceability and brings buyers closer to the source with restaurants and chefs having the ability to order direct from source via our online marketplace with full supply chain traceability that can be passed onto their end consumers with our SFS Trace product.

As the global pandemic has shown, supply chains need to be resilient, and technology is the solution, not only to improve seafood trade currently but to contribute to sustaining our oceans and seafood supply for future generations.

Through a global ecosystem, we will be integrating the entire value chain from seafood producers , fisheries, NGO’s like IPNLF and Friend of the Sea, through to restaurants and hotel groups, on a shared mission to revolutionize the industry for the benefit of all, because in the end, every drop in the ocean counts.
